A Run to Honor their Sacrifice and Educate their Legacy. Proceeds from the Patriots Run benefit Folds of Honor Kansas City Chapter, a 501c3 non-profit providing educational scholarships to the spouses and children of fallen or disabled American Heroes and First Responders.
The personal impact for me was to realize that this attack was to everyday people who were just going about their lives doing what we all do each day. I had been in corporate sales much of my life and spent a fair amount of time in conference rooms and on air planes just as all the victims did on that day. On a different day it could have been me.
It isn’t just important for us to remember this personally, but we must continue to teach the younger generation what happened, why it happened and how we have so many people working tirelessly to keep us safe. One little girl wanted to be there so she could thank a soldier who would fight to keep her safe even though he’d never even met her. That explains it.
Each year it is amazing and rewarding to meet people from all walks of life and from many miles away who come together to thank and honor those who serve our country. Each year we hear a different story of why they come to the heart of America to participate and those stories have kept us going for 20 years.
The Patriots Run is held on the inner loop of the Aspiria campus with free garage parking available. Race registration, start line, and other festivities take place nearest to Paige Field at the corner of 117th St and Sprint Parkway. Runners and spectators are welcome to set up tents, blankets, and chairs along the grassy areas on and near the field. An emergency medical team will be on-site and water stations will be provided along the race loop.
